Common Questions

Questions clients often bring to the first session

Do I need to have decided to separate before I contact you?
Not at all. Many clients come to the Quiet Consultation Hour simply to understand what their options are — without having made any decision. That is precisely what the hour is for: to give you a clearer picture before you decide on anything.
How does Thai family law handle child arrangements after a separation?
Under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code, parental authority and custody are treated as distinct questions. In practice, the court looks at the welfare of the child as the primary consideration. A written separation plan can set out the arrangements both parties are willing to follow, which often reduces the need for court involvement.
What happens to property acquired during a marriage?
Thai law distinguishes between personal property (sin suan tua) and marital property (sin somros). Assets acquired during the marriage are generally considered marital property and subject to division. The specifics depend on individual circumstances, which is why a consultation is useful before any step is taken.
How long does a separation plan take to prepare?
The Separation Plan Preparation service involves an initial structured conversation, a draft document, and a review meeting. In most cases the process takes two to three weeks from the first appointment, though this depends on the complexity of the arrangements and the availability of both parties.
Are the fees inclusive of all work, or are there additional charges?
Each service is priced as a fixed amount for the defined scope of work. If additional work is required beyond that scope — for example, attending a court hearing not anticipated at the outset — this is discussed and agreed in writing before any additional cost is incurred.
Will the consultation be confidential?
Yes, entirely. What you share in the consultation — or in any subsequent matter — is held in strict confidence and is not disclosed to any third party without your explicit written consent. This applies from the very first conversation.
